$40
Ham Sandwich Debuts at Limelight Marketplace
You
may have never thought you'd shell out $26 for a burger, but
Minetta Tavern's Black Label Burger has become a must-have for
New York's foodie crowd.
Now, a new pricey sandwich has arrived in town, featuring the
crown jewel of Spanish ham, Jamón Ibérico de Bellota.
The $39.95 "Conquistador," available at Jezalin's
Gourmet Market inside Limelight Marketplace, is served plain
in a crispy baguette so as to not alter the flavors of what
has been called the "finest ham in the world."
Derived from the Black Iberian Pig, which lives primarily in
the South and Southwest parts of Spain, Jamón ibérico
accounts for only about 8% of Spain's cured ham production,
and is not widely available stateside. In addition to the sandwich,
Jezalin's will also sell the imported meat by the pound and
slice (hand-sliced at $150/lb, to be exact), carefully carving
from the thigh of the cured ibérico, with the bone and
black foot left fully intact.
